XBOAT ref :6229. This Dean 440 from 2002 was built by Dean Catamarans in Cape Town, South Africa. It has been our full-time home in French Polynesia for the past three years, but health issues now require us to change our lifestyle.
In the pursuit of extreme seaworthiness, all Dean catamarans feature very flotationeer bows with well-forwarded main decks and a small trampoline area. They have asymmetrical hulls, where the outside curvature is much more pronounced than the inside curve, reducing wave formation between the hulls (reduced Venturi effect). This, combined with high cabin clearance, significantly reduces clunking under the deck while improving overall performance.
Another feature of Dean catamarans is the mast tilted 7 degrees aft. This unusual feature improves both upwind sailing performance and the boat's ability to tack without the difficulties associated with some other catamarans.
We loved our DEAN 440 for many reasons. Firstly, the Dean 440 offers a perfect blend of space, comfort, and performance. We can sail much better than an ordinary catamaran, while remaining comfortable and maneuverable. Secondly, the boat has a down galley, which provides far more comfort and usable space than the up-forward galley typically found in charter vessels.
The boat was imported to French Polynesia and can therefore stay there indefinitely, for short vacation stays or long-term cruising in the world's best cruising area. Or, set off on the journey of a lifetime from here – the boat is fully equipped and ready to depart (you only need to bring your toothbrush).
History :
This Dean 440 has had 3 owners. The first owner was American and the boat was based on the East Coast of the United States.
In 2016, the boat was purchased by the second owner – a German. He cruised in the Caribbean and crossed the Panama Canal at the end of 2019, arriving in French Polynesia in March 2020.
We bought the vessel in Tahiti on August 1, 2022, and have since been living aboard full-time in French Polynesia. Currently actively used and cruising. The vessel was "Papeetized" / imported to French Polynesia in March 2023.
Over €60,000 have been spent on the boat in recent years. See the appendix for a complete summary of the boat's history and equipment.
The boat is located in French Polynesia and flies the German flag. More information and photos are available on xboat.fr
