Silenter than the competition: Mercury 115 FourStroke is quieter than a 115 hp 4-stroke of competing brands at all speeds.
At idle, Mercury is four decibels below the competition – the competing outboard is 25% louder.
At cruising speed, where conversations usually take place, the competing outboard generates about 15% more noise.
At full power, Mercury is over eight decibels quieter – the competing outboard is 50% louder.

Counter-rotation: Love offshore fishing, even if you don’t plan to acquire a large boat? Mercury offers for the first time a 115 hp FourStroke engine with left-hand rotation. Two of these mid-range giants on your transom provide maneuverability and docking safety similar to twin higher-power hulls, but at a much more affordable price. Unlike competing twin 115 hp engines, Mercury Twin 115 FourStrokes are Command Thrust models driving V6-class propellers, like those in the Enertia series, to provide better acceleration and control in rough waters.
*Available only on 115 hp
Powerful and efficient: Thanks to their lightweight and high displacement, Mercury’s new 80 - 115 FourStrokes produce generous torque and instantaneous power. Since they don’t need to exert as much effort as heavier or lower-cylinder engines, these engines help boats plane faster, accelerate better, and show improved fuel efficiency at cruising speeds.
Lightweight and energy efficient: Mercury’s renowned engineering team has packed incredible power into these lightweight, compact four-cylinder overhead cam engines. The 115 hp weighs 9 kilograms less than its nearest four-stroke competitor, making it the lightest low-emission outboard in its power category.
The dry weight is the lightest model. Comparative weights are based on base engines without oil, propeller, or integrated steering cylinder. Weights are based on owner’s manual specifications.
Larger footprint: The larger Command Thrust lower unit creates a bigger water footprint, improving boat control. The larger fuselage housing combined with a bigger-diameter propeller can more easily bring a heavy boat onto plane and keep it there at lower speeds, without affecting top speed.
Assured quietness: Equipped with the same lifetime maintenance-free valvetrain as our 150 FourStroke engines, the 80-115 hp FourStrokes are incredibly durable.
Smoother than the competition: The Mercury 115 FourStroke produces less vibrations and offers smoother navigation than a competing 115 hp 4-stroke.
At idle forward, Mercury’s vibration level at the helm is up to 50% lower than that of the competing outboard.
At the transom, the competing outboard vibrates nearly five times more than Mercury at cruising and full throttle.
