Screw with butterfly throttle: The 40 HP manual start model, long shaft (20 in / 508 mm), and tiller steer is also available with a butterfly throttle screw. This screw reduces the time and effort required to install/remove the outboard motor on the transom of the boat.

The Big Tiller: The centrally mounted Big Tiller, optional, offers optimal control. A longer tiller handle integrates a convenient trim button, the reverse gear lever is within reach, and an optional digital trolling control allows reducing engine speed down to 700 rpm in 10 rpm steps.

Instant starts / energy efficiency: Mercury's electronic fuel injection (EFI) provides reliable instant starts, greater energy efficiency, immediate acceleration, and protection against fuel quality issues.

Charging system: A high-power 18 amp alternator keeps batteries charged and the fishing electronics operational.
