The Mercury 8 and 9.9 hp FourStroke outboards include:
- A new three-position choke with no priming button for improved starting, simplified starting procedure, and faster engine warm-up.
- A richer air/fuel mixture at idle for easier starting and better idle quality (tiller models).
- Modified ignition timing to allow anglers to find and maintain an optimal trolling speed.
Command Thrust: Unmatched Power. Longer and incorporating longer components, the Mercury Command Thrust gearcase was specifically designed to provide the power, thrust, and control required for wider and heavier boats.
The Command Thrust difference:
- A 20% larger propeller increases control, especially at low speeds.
- The longer gearcase submerges the propeller deeper underwater, beneath turbulent water. Result: better performance.
- A low gear ratio of 2.42:1 provides the thrust and maneuverability essential for heavy loads.
- An oversized anti-cavitation plate. This oversizing prevents air intake into the propeller, increasing efficiency.
Practical and easy lifting: Lower the tiller to easily raise the outboard in any position, thanks to our exclusive ratchet transom bracket.
