Mercury FourStroke 8 and 9.9 hp outboards include:
- A new three-position starter with no choke button, for improved starting, simplified starting procedure, and quicker engine warm-up.
- A richer air/fuel mixture at idle for easier starting and smoother idle operation (models with tiller).
- Modified ignition timing to help fishermen find and maintain optimal trolling speeds.

Command Thrust: Unmatched power. Longer and with longer components, Mercury’s Command Thrust lower unit has been specifically designed to deliver necessary power, thrust, and control for larger, heavier boats.

Differences of Command Thrust:
- A larger 20% propeller increases control, especially at low speeds.
- The longer lower unit extends the propeller deeper into the water, under turbulent water. Result: better performance.
- A low gear ratio of 2.42:1 provides the thrust and maneuverability needed for heavy loads.
- Oversized anti-cavitation plate. This oversized feature prevents air intake into the propeller, increasing efficiency.

Practical and easy lift: Lower the tiller handle to effortlessly lift the outboard in any position, thanks to our exclusive rear transom arm with ratchets.
