On January 22, 1939, E. Carl Kiekhaefer purchased a bankrupt engine manufacturing plant in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Today, 80 years later, the company born from these modest beginnings, better known as Mercury Marine, is a corporation employing 7,000 people worldwide and recognized as the world's leading manufacturer of marine propulsion systems.
