Anthony Cegri, Founder of Cap Med Yacht Consulting reinvents the maritime brokerage profession with Le Yacht Manager
Can you tell us about your background and what led you to the nautical world? You don't choose the sea; it calls you. From a very young age, I was irresistibly drawn to this universe, with the early feeling that my future would be played out on the water. Since the age of 8, I spent all my summers at the sailing school helping the instructors. At 15, I launched my first small business renting paddleboards on the beach. At 18, I entered the demanding world of used boat sales, and at 20, the even more exclusive world of Yacht sales – a defining moment that firmly anchored my vocation: I didn’t just want to sell boats, I wanted to support life projects at sea.
Driven by this passion, I enhanced my path with a Master’s degree, technical certifications, and many hands-on experiences: boat mechanic, sailing instructor, regatta competitor, PACA champion in long-distance paddleboarding… I have always wanted to know the boat from every angle – technical, sporting, human – to speak about it accurately, to convince with authenticity.
But it is also the people I met who shaped me. I think of Philippe Lessausse, a recognized industry expert and golden ear of the Navy, who reached out and opened the doors to this niche market. To Oliver Krauss, talented sailor and shipyard manager, and of course to Marc Pajot, legendary sailor and outstanding broker, whom I had the chance to work with for five defining years. Under his guidance, I learned discipline, excellence, and strategic thinking. He gave me the confidence to think big and fight to realize my own vision of the profession.
Today, this journey leads me to want to reinvent maritime brokerage, to put humans, expertise, and service back at the heart of the relationship between a pleasure boat owner and their boat.
Do you have a personal boat? If yes, which one, and what does it represent for you? Yes, indeed. I have a 9-meter sailboat: a Jeanneau Rush, the former boat of the Tour de France à la voile. This boat has an invaluable sentimental value because it belonged to my grandparents, who raised me and passed on their life values, love of the sea, and humility. For me, it is much more than a boat: it is a symbol of heritage, a powerful family bond, and a constant reminder of my roots. Like every passionate owner, I consider it the most beautiful boat in the world.
How was Cap Med Yacht Consulting born? At 23 years old and after having sold several boats, I decided to turn my passion into a business. Cap Med Yacht Consulting was born with a clear vision: to bring back rigor, service, and ethics to a sometimes too improvised profession. Today, we have sold about a hundred boats and are established in 9 ports between the south of France, Brittany, and the Caribbean. But above all, we don’t just sell boats. We create connections. We support dreams. We offer an experience and strive to respect this beautiful and old profession that is maritime brokerage.
What is your view on the current evolution of the pleasure boating market? We are at a turning point. Two years ago, in the post-Covid boom, there were five buyers per boat. Today, it’s the opposite: five boats per buyer. The supply has exploded, demand is lower and more demanding, prices have to adjust, and boaters want flawless service. In this context, the simple role of “seller” is no longer enough. You have to accompany, advise, secure transactions, and become a true nautical partner.
You wrote a book, why? Yes, indeed, the book is called “The Quest of the Maritime Broker”, born from a need to pay tribute to a profession often misunderstood but essential. Through this book, I trace the history of maritime brokerage through time, its role in the major eras of nautical commerce, its constant evolution, and above all, the importance of bringing it into a new era. This profession, deeply rooted in tradition, must today adapt to new boater expectations: more proximity, more transparency, more service. This reflection naturally led me to imagine a new profession, a more modern and hybrid version, the Yacht Manager.
You often speak of a new profession, that of the Yacht Manager. How is it different from a traditional broker? TheYacht Manager isthe new face of the maritime broker. He is no longer simply a boat seller, but atrusted expert, locally anchored, whoadvises, supports, organizes, and builds loyalty. He knowsevery corner of his port, the best providers, the boats, the owners. He acts as anautical conductor, capable of offering the boater atailored, smooth, and reassuring experience.
Ultimately, it is ahybrid profession, at the crossroads ofbrokerage, management, andhigh-end concierge services. With adual focus: flawless serviceand commercial performance.
For independents, it is a rare and modern opportunity: They can generate strong commissionson boat sales, while benefiting from a steady monthly incomethanks to concierge services. They receive a proven method, local support, powerful digital tools, and a clear vision: reinvent their profession sustainably.
For boaters, it is a gentle and effective revolution: No more hassles, doubts, or risky "RADIO PONTON". "Do you know someone for engine maintenance?", "Try this one… I hear he's good."
With us,everything is clear, framed, professional. All services are grouped. The Yacht Manager has already selected the best local providers, tested and approved. The owner has only one trusted contactfor everything.
You are also launching a mobile app. What is its purpose? This is where innovation truly takes meaning… with the “Yacht Manager” app, the new - Radio Ponton 3.0 A boater opens the app, geolocates their port, and discovers their local Yacht Manager. In a few clicks, they can access all the services they need, be accompanied and advised, from maintenance to the sale of their boat.
We digitalize access to human service.
We simplify the boating experience.
We respond to a real need.
And above all, we put an end to the sadly famous phrase: "We're happy when we buy a boat... but even happier when we sell it."
With Yacht Managers, the owner is happy throughout the journey. Their boat becomes what it always should have been: a pleasure. Not a burden.
What is your long-term ambition? To create a national network of independent Yacht Managers. There are 450 ports in France, not counting inland waters. One Yacht Manager for 3 ports is a realistic medium-term goal. My ambition is not to build soulless volume. I want to build a network of passionate, competent, trained people happy to live from their profession. And for boaters, it’s to finally offer a clear, quality, and accessible response to all their nautical problems.
What sets you apart in the market? We combine a craft approach with modern tools. We have a proven method, a culture of rigor, and a very human vision of the profession. We don’t sell boats. We change people’s lives. And that makes all the difference.
A message to those who would like to join you? If you love boats, if you have an entrepreneurial spirit, if you dream of a concrete, free, demanding but rewarding profession: you are in the right place. With Cap Med Yacht Consulting, you can become a Yacht Manager, build your local activity, and participate in a unique adventure.
Where can we meet you soon? As every year, we will be present at the International Multihull Show in La Grande Motte, from April 23 to 28, 2025. We will share a booth with our loyal partners Harel Yachts, Lagoon distributors for the Caribbean. On our side, we will represent the Swiss Cat brand for France and exhibit the brand-new Swiss Cat 55’, a marvel of technology and design. Find us at stand E30 to discover our new boats, market opportunities for used boats, and perhaps discuss over a coffee about your future profession or nautical project.
One last word to conclude? I deeply believe this profession is undergoing a major transformation. And it deserves better. The sea calls those who have a passion for freedom, a taste for challenge, and love for precision. The sea teaches humility. And it is with these values that I move forward each day to build a just, sustainable, and ambitious project. To quote a phrase from Bernard Moitessier often reminded to me by my mentor Marc Pajot: “What men have done beautifully and well, they have done with their dreams.” At Cap Med, we dream big. And we invite all those who share these values to embark with us. To those looking for a new concrete, human, and free profession: become a Yacht Manager. To all boaters seeking peace of mind: you now have a local ally to sail with a light heart.
