Description
Revamped, modernized, rethought, the Ferretti 500 New skillfully renews the entry-level segment of the prestigious Italian shipyard by once again elevating classicism to a core virtue.
Its clean, flowing, sleek lines are highlighted by the continuous profile design of the windshield and the long side openings that extend towards the back of the helm station. Despite its large surface area, the flybridge stands out for its subtlety, especially when viewed from the side profile.
On the lower deck, the yard offers a choice between two versions. The first features a cross-forecabin and a large VIP cabin occupying the bow of the boat. The second retains the master but adds a side cabin alongside the forward one. Regardless of the version chosen, each cabin has a private bathroom.
And while the Ferretti 500 New exhibits a significant beam and generous freeboards, its designers ensured that this does not disturb its sleek and sporty appearance. It was at the port of La Spezia, about a hundred kilometers east of Genoa where Ferretti has impressive facilities, that we had the opportunity to discover the boat.
This new sporty and attractive Ferretti also hides a pair of Cummins QSB 6.7 engines beneath its floors. This propulsion system, the only one offered by the yard, allowed us to approach the symbolic threshold of 30 knots.
At cruising speed, the Ferretti 500 handles well, with engines set at 3000 rpm to reach a speed of 25 knots.
At this pace, it is worth noting that fuel consumption remains modest, at less than 90 liters per hour. Special mention for the perfect soundproofing of the boat once the sliding doors of the rear glass bay are closed: crew members can continue talking without raising their voices.
Equipped with shaft line transmissions, the vessel is easy to helm, with sharp turns surprisingly effortless to execute. Vibrations are nonexistent, as are any parasitic noises, with no play to report in the furniture doors. Down to the smallest detail, Ferretti nurtures a certain idea of perfection.
