Flexibility and performance: Their compact design with inline camshaft and long piston stroke grants Mercury FourStroke outboards 40-60 hp more low-end torque for excellent acceleration even when pushing a heavy load. The large displacement, long stroke, four cylinders, and single camshaft ensure optimal power and smooth navigation with Command Thrust models.

Counter-rotation propeller : The 40 hp manual start model, long shaft (20 in / 508 mm), and tiller steering are also available with a counter-rotation propeller. This reduces removal/setup time for the outboard engine on the transom of the boat.

Big Tiller: The centrally mounted Big Tiller, optional, offers optimal control. A longer tiller handle integrates a convenient trim button, the reverse gear lever is within reach, and an optional digital trim control reduces engine speed down to 700 rpm in 10 rpm increments.

Instant start / energy efficiency: Mercury’s electronic fuel injection (EFI) provides reliable instant starts, greater energy efficiency, immediate reactivity, and protection against fuel quality issues.

Charge System: A high-power 18-amp alternator keeps batteries charged and fishing electronics operational.

More control, more power: A gear ratio of 2.33:1 with larger gears 44% bigger provides increased thrust. The desmodromic reverse is ultra-smooth. A deeper-draft mounting, a propeller with 20% more blade surface, and a lower gear ratio ensure unmatched thrust, maneuverability, and draft.
