Large displacement, long stroke, four cylinders, and single overhead camshaft ensure optimal power and smooth navigation with the Command Thrust models.

Butterfly screw clamp: The 40 hp manual start, long shaft (20" / 508 mm), tiller steering model is also available with a butterfly screw clamp. This clamp reduces time and effort needed to remove the outboard from the boat’s transom.

Big Tiller: The optional centrally mounted Big Tiller offers optimal control. The longer tiller handle integrates a convenient trim button, the shift lever is within easy reach, and an optional digital trolling control reduces engine speed down to 700 RPM in 10 RPM increments.

Instant starts / energy efficiency: Mercury’s Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) ensures reliable instant starts, better fuel efficiency, immediate responsiveness, and protection against fuel quality issues.

Charging system: A high-output 18-amp alternator keeps batteries charged and fishing electronics running.

More control, more power: A 2.33:1 gear ratio with 44% larger gears delivers greater thrust. The desmodromic gear shift is ultra-smooth.
A deeper gearcase, a propeller with 20% more blade surface area, and a lower gear ratio provide unmatched thrust, maneuverability, and planing ability.
